EGU Newsletter 2/2013: https://dl.dropbo...2-2013.pdf (pdf)
Editors note: Information from our members are coming in. We hear many hair raising stories. Like AMEs charging 300 € for the new Medical II/LAPL Medical . One NAA says there is no difference between a Medical Class II and the LAPL Medical, so in consequence they will not issue LAPL Medicals (!!!!!). Some NAAs are issuing the new licenses on a life time basis (as it should be), while at least Sweden will charge an annual “registration fee” for the license. On the good side it seems like our Icelandic friends, with the help of Denmark, now have valid ARCS for most of their gliders (after having been grounded for the last two years!!!!!!). |

EGU Newsletter 3/2013: http://www.egu-in...3-2013.pdf
The EGU is responsible for representing gliding at a European level, no one else. National aero clubs and
pan-national bodies such as Europe Air Sports have an important role to play, and we must continue to work
closely with them. Only the EGU, however, concerns itself solely with gliding.
Verder is op de EGU website verschenen: Proceedings from the 2nd EGU workshop on Club Development
Gliding is losing people. Glider pilots are getting older. We all want to change these two facts, which
is why we are all embarking on this project and have formed the EGU Club Development Working
Group. This project holds incredible potential for the long term benefit of our sport. Unfortunately, it also
holds potential for creating a level of complexity that could result in no progress whatsoever.

EGU newsletter 2-2014: https://drive.goo...authuser=0
Welcome to the autumn newsletter of the EGU. I hope that you have had an enjoyable and successful gliding season. The year seems to have been a good one for gliding in many parts of the continent. Europe hosted two successful world gliding championships in Finland and in Poland, as well as a very exciting World Sailplane Grand Prix final in France – and the OLC and other national ladders record a very impressive range of flying more generally. European glider pilots certainly seem to make the best of the available weather.
In the last newsletter, I reflected on how much of an affect EASA has made on gliding in Europe. My ‘score sheet’ was not a particularly positive one for the organization. After many years of work, and after having spent untold amounts of money on developing new regulations that directly or indirectly impact on gliding, EASA has left us, in general, in a significantly poorer position than we were at the outset.

Interessant:
In all likelihood, it will be sometime in the second half of 2017 before we will be handing over draft new rules. When you add the time it then takes for EASA, and the European Commission and Parliament to take care of the broader administration, it is easy to see that the (much needed) new rules will not be in law before the FCL opt‐out ends in 2018. This will begin to cause major problems some considerable time before April 2018 as nations realise how much change is going to be needed in order to comply with FCL – and how little had already been done at the local level. There is already talk within Europe of having the current opt‐out extended for another year or so. In reality, this is not going to help much. Work is critically required to determine when a switch to the new system is going to be feasible. We see this as an early priority – and are quite prepared to argue for things to be pushed back until the early to mid‐2020s, if that is what is needed in order to allow everyone enough time to transition without much trouble

Medical
The British Gliding Association has changed its medical requirement so that possession of a driving licence is all that is needed for glider flying. (No legal changes needed). |

https://www.easa....ountry/map
